Old Prophecy, Myth, and Legend

May 28, 2017 by Lynn Sholes Leave a Comment

The old prophecy about the Spear of Destiny states,”Whosoever possesses the Spear and understands the powers it serves holds in his hands the destiny of the world for good or evil.”

This Spear of Destiny is at the center of the book THE DESTINY CODE.

There are several spears that claim to be the legendary one from the Bible. But for this blog, I will only mention the legends and myths and truths about the one in Vienna.

The legend of the Holy Lance, the Spear of Destiny, begins at the Crucifixion. Joseph of Arimathea begged Pilate for Jesus’s body. The Jews buried their dead before sundown, and the Sabbath approached—the Jewish day begins at sundown. To speed up death, the Roman soldiers would break the legs of those crucified. When they got to Jesus, he appeared to be dead already. To be certain, a soldier pierced Jesus’s side with his spear. (This is the only mention of the spear in the Bible. The soldier was later named Longinus.)

So begin the myths and legends. Longinus was supposedly blind. But when the blood ran down the spear onto Longinus, miraculously his sight was restored. Jesus’s blood turned this spear into a holy relic. It is said Longinus converted to Christianity and kept the spear. It was then handed down to Christians for generations.

And what happened if you had the Spear of Destiny and then lost or no longer possessed it? Hmm. Check these out.

Charlemagne—The power of The Spear of Destiny allowed Charlemagne to expand the Holy Roman Empire to include most of Europe. He carried the Spear in 47 battles and died soon after dropping it.

Holy Roman Emperor, Frederick Barbarossa I—Barbarossa was the King of Germany before he became the Roman Emperor after forcing his way into Italy. He is said to have used the Spear of Destiny to help him. Legend says he misplaced the relic while crossing a stream. It is fact that when he went into Turkey, he preferred to cross the Saleph River in the water rather than using a bridge. The current was so strong that his horse lost its balance and Barbarossa fell off and drowned. Somehow, the Holy Lance fell into the hands of other Roman Emperors.

Adolph Hitler—Hitler first saw the Holy Lance when he visited the Hofburg Museum. This is what he said about the experience. “I stood there quietly gazing upon it for several minutes quite oblivious to the scene around me. It seemed to carry some hidden inner meaning which evaded me, a meaning which I felt I inwardly knew yet could not bring to consciousness… I felt as though I myself had held it before in some earlier century of history. That I myself had once claimed it as my talisman of power and held the destiny of the world in my hands…”

After Hitler took over Austria, he had the museum’s contents moved to Nuremberg. When WWII ended with Hitler’s defeat, he ordered that the contents of the museum be moved to an underground vault to protect them from bombing raids. It has been said that on April 30th, 1945, at 2 p.m. Patton’s forces took possession of the vault including the Spear of Destiny. Eighty minutes later, Hitler died by his own hand in a Berlin bunker.

General George Patton—Patton returned all the artifacts to Vienna, Austria. Before doing so, he had the Spear studied. He was ready to return home, but the day before he was to leave Europe, he was in a minor car accident. He, unlike the others in the vehicle, did not see the crash coming and did not brace himself. His head slammed into a metal part of the car, paralyzing him from the neck down. He lived another 12 days before passing away.
