Playing in the rain (click to see the video) I have decided to make an attitude adjustment. We had two of our precious little grandbabes visiting (NeeNee and Abuelo’s summer camp) for the week. I’d forgotten just how fun it is to be a kid—run, play, imagine, run some more just because you can, find wonder in the smallest thing, be curious, and look at the world as an awesome place to be. I thought to myself, yep, you need their attitude. I made up my mind to be like a kid again and started to FLIP IT. Just like when we told the boys we couldn’t go out in the boat because it was raining, they didn’t let that news slow them down. They played in the rain, stomped in mud puddles, raced their little bikes through standing water and squealed with laughter at the splash. They imagined they were in a Jurassic world and had their own dinosaurs bounding through the trees and palmettos. What a great way to live. They flipped something around—bad news was it was raining, and we weren’t going out in the boat—they turned it into good news. They could do a lot of things playing in the rain.
I took my first shot at FLIP IT the other day. On the drive home from the wildlife park with the grandkids, the traffic was bad and, of course, the regular number of dodos were on the road with us. Then I thought, how lucky we are to have a car and not have to walk everywhere we go. Amazing the change that FLIP IT made in my mood. I really did feel…lifted. I decided to try it again even with the simplest things. We often don’t realize how many negative thoughts go through our minds. That doesn’t mean we always stop and hover over them, but still, they do influence our sense of well-being. The next decision to “flip” came at the end of the day. I was tired and looked at the dishes I still had to do and the laundry I needed to put in the washer. It didn’t take but a minute to FLIP IT—I am happy we have enough food to eat and more than one set of clothes to wear. A new attitude sprung up right away. Positive energy kicked negative energy’s behind. (But I do get great help from my husband, I have to say! He does dishes and laundry as much or more than I. Again, how lucky I am to have a hubby like that!)
FLIP IT isn’t always easy, but I figure it’s worth a try. Maybe if we all gave it a shot, we wouldn’t see so much violence and rage in the world. I’d like to begin a FLIP IT thread in my TALK TO ME category of the blog. How about we share our FLIP IT SNIPPETS. Let’s help each other see easy ways to let positive thoughts prevail. Hop over to TALK TO ME and share a time you flipped a negative into a positive. Share it on your Facebook page, too, and other social media. Maybe someone who is having a bad day will read it and turn it into a good day.
See you there!
